I would bet a lot of DAoC is coming over, since it is, unfortunately, a dying game, and from my experiance, DAoC has a very strong and mature community, especially Midgard. I'm sure some of the WoW tools will come over, and they'll probably spend the entirity of their existence in the PvE areas, after getting savagely violated by us a few times of course, thus having zero impact on the in-game world.

Lets just hope the rest of us are enough to keep them in check. I bet you a ton of them will keep on doing what they are doing now (i.e. playing WoW) so we may not even have to worry about it. |

I need humans and elves in the game so I can go kill them (aka the "good" "pretty" races) - what fun would RvR be if you had no-one to stomp?. If the WoW kiddies are anything to go by these are the races they will play. There would be a certain element of satisfaction in that. Younger players that have the good sense to play Chaos/Orcs/Dwarves will be afforded a higher level of respect. Not all of the young players I have seen are total newbs with credit cards. There are some very talented and surprisingly mature ones about. Most of those play horde in WoW ofc ;) |

WAR has elves in it so we are doomed. :D Just be glad there is no rogue class like in WoW or we would be completely screwed. ;) Of course there is the Witch Hunter so I can see a "horde" of teens and pre-teens signing in for the hat and duster. Hopefully the RvR will weed out the worst of the lot and, at least, there won't be any official forums for them to clog. |

They mentioned only 2 high level NPC bosses so far (Slaurith and the Bloodthirster), which may even be only one encounter. The best gear will probably (hopefully) come from sacking an enemy capitol. Any of the ones that think they can PvP will quickly learn they can't, and either quit or spend their time in the PvE areas. I'm sure there will be a lot of female elves on both sides running around at the start, but I don't think that it will last for the reasons mentioned above. Also, having no stealthing classes makes the game a lot easier to balance I'd imagine.

They're not going to give a stealth class to one race but not the rest.
|
Apprentice Posts: 8 Joined: 2 Jul 2007 | From what I've read of Witch Hunters, they're a bit sneaky, and a most dangerous attacking an opponent "unawares and from behind." I wouldn't be surprised if they were given some sneak attacks either being stealth, or equating to something very similar. |

I'm 99% positive I've heard from some official source that there will be no stealthing in WAR. Witch Hunters will probably be positional fighters, having certain attacks (eg, shootin' em in the head from behind) being unlocked as their confession/torture gauge rises. There's no auto-face/auto-stick in WAR (one of DAoC's mistakes) so positional fighters will be much more powerful. They can't make 1 of the race's 4 classes be a stealther. That would lock out anyone who wants to melee DPS as that race but not be a stealther.

Master Looter Posts: 1054 Joined: 5 Jul 2007 | The community in WoW is terrible. Simply Terrible. Though once you reach a certain level of popularity morons and imbeciles of all types will flock to the game. So while I hope WAR will have a good mature community, if they get too big I would be worried that it would become somthing like WoW's. Simply because there are far more stupid people than there are smart people in the world. I would be so thrilled if some of the best gear came from raiding the enemy city. That would be the greatest imho. I wonder though, will the city raid be instanced? Will you be able to join at any time? Are only a certain number of people allowed? I'd be worried if they let unlimited number join I mean, I wen't to a "gay wedding" in WoW a few weeks back and there must have been around 100-200 people there. At that point, the entire server shut down. I'd like to see an epic battle for a city with hundreds of players but I'm also worried the servers wouldn't be able to handle the stress. And if it's instanced then only the big raiders would ever get a chance to use it... I'm sure the WAR Devs have already figured out how to overcome these problems but I still can't help worry =p. The community in WAR will be focused around the battlefront and the..well, war. I've yet to meet any "PvPers" in Wow who I could consider a challenge, so whoever comes over to WAR will end up being a non-factor. Also, the DAoC community is very close and for the most part, very mature. I'm not very worried with the community being hurt by immature idiots playing.
Never played DAoC I take? Castle sieges are crazy. You could have around 200-300 people from just your side there, and probably another 200 of whoever owns the castle. Then there's the ML raids and arti runs, which, on a good day, will have 80-150 people. The DAoC servers are extremely stable, and they rarely get taken down, even for patching, and when they do, they're almost always up early. Blizzard has let WoW (in terms of amount of servers) grow far too large for them to effectively control. Constant server crashes, restarts, bringing servers down for "emergency maintenance"..Mythic never pulls any of that, maybe once in a blue moon, and even then they keep you much better informed then Blizzard does. I hope city raids are not instanced, and I hope they let whoever gets up there into the city. And I have a good feeling they will.

Master Looter Posts: 1054 Joined: 5 Jul 2007 | That would be the greatest, as you can tell I have not played DAoC, wasn't really into PC games all that much back then and therefore I never really got to try it. Though it sounds better than WoW already. It seems like every ten minutes half their servers go down. That's not even talking about patch days...or weeks for that matter. I'm really looking forward to the big city raids that anyone can join. It'll be really interesting and hopefully there will be some phat l00ts. I've been dying for a more PvP oriented game and WAR will slate my thirst I believe. =p Emancipating heads from necks since 1987!

Master Looter Posts: 1054 Joined: 5 Jul 2007 | Nah I tried EQ and hated it. Played Planetside for a month and stopped because it was soo laggy and graphically displeasing. Then Eve Online which I really enjoyed but just got bored with. WoW is the one I've stuck with the longest but they have so many things that are just absolutely terrible and refuse to fix it I don't even care. In fact, I was playing it regularly until I started reading about Warhammer. Once I started learning about how they were making a good MMO I immediately became ashamed that I played WoW. Ever see the Future Thoughts video from Brad Neely on Super Deluxe? When Babycakes start talking about the aliens and how ashamed they made them feel. Yea, thats how I felt. But anyways, once I learned about WAR and how it was going to play I stopped playing WoW then. Just learning about WAR was better than playing WoW by far! Emancipating heads from necks since 1987!

i just happened to come across a few signatures on the wow forums about WAR, and now something alarming came into my head. we all want WAR to be the greatest MMO ever created, and we all want it to be popular, but imagine just for a second hordes of b.net kiddies from WoW playing WAR when it comes out! i mean, i want WAR to become popular, sure.. but not THAT popular!
