"We've only heard so far about [specific race] Vs.[specific race] in the RVR/PVP combat, but I was wondering if you will be able to travel to the other realms? For example, can I take my Empire Bright Wizard over to the Dwarf Vs. Greenskin zone, and burn some orcs up?"

Yes you can. The only real question I have is about the Zealots, and if we'll have hoods in-game like shown in the concept art. |

I have heard it mentioned in some videos and seen on pics gear described as Tier 1, Tier 3, etc... So how many Tiers are there? It gets boring to see a bunch of guys running around in the same armor for several levels. Will we have access to dies and enamels like in DAoC so we can color our armor? Plus the most important thing of all, User Made Video Spoofs! Will we be able turn this into a WAR video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_6vYDCG0P8 |

-Tier 4 will be the highest. Tier 4 Rank 10 (aka level 40). -They have mentioned plans to have dyes, along with other customization for armor (trophy system), and plans to put your guild emblem somewhere on your armor. They haven't finished building the game world yet (or they haven't told us yet), so none of this has really been addressed further than ideas/idle chatter or implemented in-game. I'm hoping for another good 30minute gameplay video from GamesDay Baltimore, like the one WHA put out from Toronto. Maybe we'll get some High Tier Empire/Chaos this time. |

Posts: 1 Joined: 22 Jun 2007 | My question for Mythic is this: I have heard numerous times that the instance PvP will carry a greater reward and more victory points than the PvP outside of those instances. Honestly in other games when instanced PvP was introduced the entire experience was cheapened. It went from being an epic struggle between two forces, to simply a game inside of a game. If I want an instanced PvP game I'm gonna flip my 360 on and play Halo 3, but if I want an epic struggle with great strategy involved, that isn't just a game inside of a game, I'm hoping to log into WAR. Having said that; what, if anything, is going to be done to encourage world PvP as opposed to PvP in instances? |

Odd I don't think I've heard that, or maybe I just missed it. My understanding is that the Public Quest rewards/loot will be greater than the regular solo/small group quests. From my understanding the PvP areas of the zones will have strategic points that give you and your side greater advantages in the region the more and longer they are held. They will have instanced areas too but i thought the biggest advantage was out side the instances. I better look that up again. @Chi, I thought the top level was 50 so would that mean Tier 5? Or am I being daft again? Additional: I hope there is a large variety of gear as we level. I have limited experience but in the WoW BC X-Pac a lot of characters ended looking identicle because there isn't a large enough variety of gear for rewards. |

Yes, Instance zone count so much because they give the most VP, in every instance battle both sides are winning points so they rack up fast. Also they will offer the different types of objective, unlike battlefield point which are just point that are held on to that never move and are worth set values. Senerios will also offer the best way to find quick combat if you are short on play time as there will be many different ones and many of them running. This is cheapened in games like WoW, because the battlefields never change, the objectives never change, and it all based on equipment and not skill. Being an ex-DAOC myself, I look foward to open world skirmishes and assault on objectives because they offer the most fun in terms of teamwork and developing strategies.
Top level is 40, 4 Tiers, 10 levels per tier. As to gear, Im really hoping to get an answer to this at Games Day, but from all that been said, Tier armor will be cookie cutter, but can be modified by trophies you earn. Not sure what other equipables that are planning for(ie accessories or enchanting).

Considering that to finish them at least, you need a substantial amount of people, of course the rewards will be greater than those from solo or small group quests. Also, depending on how much of the quest you participated in, your reward will be greater (i.e. someone who was there from start to finish will get a better reward then someone who was there for the last few parts). As for the RvR areas, the March 2007 podcast does a better job describing them then I could ever hope to.
Since every class will basically have their own items, only those of the same classes will look similar, and if the trophy system and other customizations they've mentioned go well, no one will look the same, unless it's on purpose. |

I wouldn't be suprised if after they finish Chaos/Empire they go back and re-work them, and again for the Elves. |

Posts: 8 Joined: 2 Jul 2007 | Hey, I have a qustion about moving around the place, and as yet I haven't seen any official announcement on travel around zones etc. Firstly, will there be racial mounts, or is this at least an idea being considered? Secondly, will the mount be customisable or upgradable in anyway like it sounds armour can be? For example, in similar games you get one of 4 mounts if you have the gold initially, and other than rep reward mounts that's it. What I'd really like to see would be guild/pvp banners, or other similar adornments as you rank. The more fearsome your renown, the more gubbinz your mount acquires and/or the more intimidating/prestigious your mount becomes. For me, everything about my character should in some way reflect my class and my rank. And lets face it, for many playing these games what you look like virtually can be more important than what you looklike in RL. EDIT: And another point I missed, how will travel between tiers/zones work? Spending 10 minutes on the back of a beastie loses it's appeal after a few hundred times. What Warhammer magic will be added here? Any news, threads relating to this I've missed? Many thanks. |

Posts: 1 Joined: 3 Jul 2007 | I was wondering about the paths. I hope to god its not like WoW. They had good ideas, with the branching, but whenever you wanted to do something, you had to switch your spec to basically do what you wanted with any success at all. Such as a warrior. To tank you had to be proct, and then switch to fury for raiding, then MS build for any success at pvping at all. Rather a harsh penalty to do anything. Its like saying, sorry, but you can't do these other things unless your this x/x/x build. I'm not saying it should be free. But i rather wanted a Chaos Chosen with a huge 2handed sword or axe. Then be able to put on a shield with no penalty of not being any good at it to help in some public quest when the needed me to absorb some blows. Just wondering if there was any info on the paths yet. |

Pretty sure there will be mounts and they will be race-specific. No idea if we'll be able to get to ride other races' mounts or not. My brother swears to seeing Orcs on wolves.
I hope to god so, and wouldn't be suprised if they do this, but like mounts, no official word yet.
Their goal in the design of the classes is to make to possible to figure out exactly what class and tier a player is just by looking at him and his equipment. Along with this, you're character will "grow" as you level up. Orcs get larger, Dwarves' beards get longer..no word on what the other races will do. There will also be the trophy system and other ways to customize your armor, so that while you're still reconized as a Chosen, you can stand out from all your Chosen friends.
They haven't mentioned anything like horse routes or flight paths or anything of the sort yet.
From what I've read/heard, the Tactics (passive buffs, similar to talents in WoW) can be changed anytime out of combat. So no trips to the trainers, no spending massive quantities of money respeccing every day, just change them to what you need at the time. The Chosen are the tank class of the Chaos. They wear heavy armor and usually tote a big shield, their similarities to prot Warriors in WoW end there. All the tank classes in WAR are going to be monsters on the battlefield, and not someone you can ignore like a prot Warr. Aside from their rather good DPS, they have a list of unique abilities to make your life hell. Black Orcs can effectively incapacitate a single player, Ironbreakers get more and more powerful as you attack them and their party. I'm guessing from the description the Chosen will have a sort of PBAOE debuffing system that gets more powerful the longer they stay in battle, the Knights of the Blazing Sun sound like they will have the opposite of a Chosen, a kind of PBAOE buffing system. Tanks are cool as hell in WAR, and considering almost all of them have been shown wielding a two-hander, I'm sure they can all do just that. Mind you, they may not be performing at their best when they do this, as they still demand a more defensive playstyle. |

Chi said most of it when mentioning tactics. One of the recent pod casts goes into detail, I suggest you have a look :) It appears as tho (atm) there are 6 "tactic slots" available, and an additional tactic slot available after a bit of RvR/questing/rep rewards. As you level, explore, rank etc you can buy/gain new tactics from the very defensive to very offensive and everything in between. Each character then has some head scratching to do: This adds a nice dimension to the game I'm yet to see in others. a) there are no horrible, expensive spec changes, b) you have numerous solo/group/pvp/raiding options available and c) knowing your class and your own cerebral abilities really play a role rather than just what gear you have, what mods you have and how quick you can press a button. Tactics is one of the most refreshing slants I've seen about WAR. |

Posts: 11 Joined: 21 Jun 2007 | Something about the tanks that Chi failed to mention was the fact that Tanks have great 'aggro' effect for RvR. At some point, I seem to recall 'the Hickman' saying something about how Tanks can taunt other players, causing their damage against others to dramatically be reduced, only being effective against the Tank himself. Also, there are some picks I've seen of the Ironbreakers and Black Orcs weilding shields, but not so much with two-handed weapons, while most Chosen pics I've seen is the opposite. The knights of the Blazing Sun seem to have a fairly balanced amount of both. |

WarCry Choice Posts: 6868 Joined: 31 Aug 2003 | That would fall under my "list of unique abilities to make your life hell" but yes, RvR useful taunts ftw. Being a tank, using a shield is basically expected, so showing screens of them with big axes and great swords is probably meant to assure players that they can wield big weapons and play offensively if they so choose. Ironbreakers are the only ones I've never seen with a two-hander so far. |

Posts: 1053 Joined: 5 Jul 2007 | Some really cool facts I haven't seen before in this thread. I'm looking forward to the next question segment to come out. What I have heard about the tanks, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that there is enemy collision detection, so even though, perhaps if they wield those 2 handers, they still won't be able to push past. Maybe the armor can absorb a good chunk of damage while they still go out and swing causing more damage than they would if they had just used a 1h and shield. Anyways. I spose I'd ask, will there be ranged collision detection? Which I'm not certain if it's been discussed or not, so please fill me in =D. What I mean is, if a Bright Wizard casts a fireball at me, if I move behind a tree will I be safe or will it simply fly through and blow me up anyways? Doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, it'd be nice for melee but a pain in the butt for ranged, not to mention it could be a resource hog if every tree or rock in the game had to realize when to stop ranged attacks. I'd like it know because I think it would be an interesting tid-bit of information. Emancipating heads from necks since 1987!

I've heard of the enemy collisions as well, and hope to the gods it goes through. Then it would give the tanks a real role in which they have no replacement.
That's probably one of the best questions I've seen so far. Most games now, if they finish the cast before you break the LoS, the spell would hit. If they implemented something like this, that would be very very cool. |

Posts: 8 Joined: 2 Jul 2007 | The RvR taunting sounds awesome. The tank would have to be lit up like a blazing wicker man when this happens tho or there will be calls from the less observant that it's an overpowered ability. /target rogue type It's nice to see that tanks are being considered as a PvP option, rather than "I'll get my 2hander" Cicadymn's question about LoS is interesting. I wonder if such a thing were considered whether or not types of terrain would make a difference? Run behind a 12-foot thick wall, all safe, run behind a twig, not so much. Where some games disallow you to target through terrain, perhaps there could be an auto player deselect when an opponent essentially hides from you. This could then auto cancel your spell cast thus saving mana, which a canny spell slinger would do. My fear for casters would be that this could be too big a gimping on long cast spells. Perhaps there should big hitting spells on quick timers to lessen the issue, or casters would need some great damage mitigation in close combat to compensate. All theories atm tho :) |

Posts: 1053 Joined: 5 Jul 2007 | I think melee could deal with some big hitting damage spells being on faster casting timer if they were able to move behind something for cover. It might make fights a little more interesting. "Oh shit! Bright wizard, move!" Followed by ducking behind a wall/tree/boulder. Then a screaming charge at the wizard. Then even if a tank moved out to block their path, the wizard could still hit through the tank since there isn't friendly collision detection. Seems pretty cool to me, I liked how Thunderhelm brought up moving behind a twig wouldn't do anything but a wall would. Knowing some other MMO's we'd probably see a twig blocking everything if it was implemented in it. So yea, even though they're theories I still like discussing them. What could be is always fun to look at. Oh and Blaydsong's taunt thing sounds insanly cool, combining that with enemy collision detection you'd have one hell of an efficient tank in PvP. XP Yes only my second post here, but I will try to contribute the best I can. I've been looking for a good WAR forum to mess around in. Emancipating heads from necks since 1987!

Amen to that! :D As to the whole ranged collision control, I'm not too sure how easy it would be to implement that into the terrain, but what if it was in effect for enemy character? For example, Mr. Bright Wizard tosses a fiery bolt at a running Zealot, who happens to dive behind a Chaos Chosen. Would the bolt impact on the Chosen, or would it pass through, unerringly striking the Zealot? |
| 30) | |
Posts: 1053 Joined: 5 Jul 2007 | Since the target would have been the zealot I believe the attack would only apply to them. While terrain may disallow attacks to connect via ranged collision detection, I don't know if they would consider another hostile as a shield or what. My guess is that it would simply fly through the chosen because the target was the zealot, though thats a good question. It could probably end up being abused by getting your teammates killed. So I would assume it would skip through a player, and move to the target, however if it was a tree or wall or etc it wouldn't connect to said zealot. Maybe different classes or something for the collision detection, say players and environment. Though I have no idea. I'm sure they'll think of something. =3 Emancipating heads from necks since 1987!
